| | Hi. I moved here over a year ago and live next to Annapolis (Edgewater). However, I may be working in Martinsburg WV for a few months. I see you have a bunch of rides listed, but I'm only familiar with the Annapolis area. Could you advise as to what might be practical for me to do on a weeknight? It's about 30 minute drive from Martinsburg, WV to Winchester, VA if that helps. Are there rides over in Frederick??? | Jim Lewandowski | jlewand@ameritech.net | (1) New | 2/1/2012 1:18 PM |
| | I seem to have been deleted from the team member disto, since I haven't received any NCVC emails for a while. I have received NCVC Cat4/5 emails though, so perhaps that is the only distro list I'm on. Please notify me if I'm on the correct distro lists. | | I am hoping that you will help me get the word out about "The Ride Connection" website. It just went live in November 2011. The Ride Connection is located at http://www.therideconnection.com Some of the website's cool features. Automatic ride notifications by email based on your profile and preferences. Google maps integration. Printable cue sheets in PDF, Word and Excel. Feet of climbing. Minimum and maximum elevation. Sophisticated search for members, rides, ride groups and routes. Anonymous email through the site until you get to know your future riding buddies. Create favorite ride and favorite route lists. Be notified if one of your favorite rides change. The ability to link your Ride and your Route. Rides and Routes can function separately as well. Create and join ride groups. Adding a ride group to your favorite ride groups list makes you a ride group member. SSL encryption. Your connection to The Ride Connection website is as secure as your online banking. These are just a few of the highlights. There will be many more features in the coming months and years. What The Ride Connection is: The Ride Connection is about connecting cyclists with cycling resources. In particular other cyclists, rides and ride groups. Later versions of The Ride Connection will include a section for Bike Clubs, Bike Shops and Events. These sections are under development. What The Ride Connection is not: Another “mapping” site like ridewithgps.com or mapmyride.com. Yes, there is mapping on The Ride Connection but mapping is only a piece of the pie. Please check out the site and search for member "Milano". View profile by selecting the Detail link. This member gets the website's mission. I encourage you to forward this email to all your cycling friends. The website will not be useful unless people use it. I hope the website enhances your cycling experience. Have fun and ride safe. Desi FYI: The website is totally FREE! PS: If you have any suggestions or questions, please let me know. | Desiree Sedgwick | flmthrwer@aol.com | (1) New | 1/12/2012 8:33 PM |
| | The Bethany-Fenwick Area Chamber of Commerce is thrilled to announce that our 22nd Annual Ocean to Bay Bike Tour won the Southern Delaware Tourism’s Recognition Award last month. On behalf of the entire staff, this award would not have been possible without the 1,200 cyclists that registered and supported the event. Please save the date for the 23rd Annual tour on Saturday, April 21st. we hope your club can join us in Southern Delaware to welcome the unofficial start to cycling season. Each participant can choose a course up to 50-miles and tour the beautiful ocean and inland areas of Bethany Beach. Another great perk of the ride is the terrain is flat! Each year the tour welcomes cyclists of all ages and skills levels, and for the first time the event sold out last year! We hope that you and your cycling club are able to join us this year! | | Hi, I'm in DC (for work) this coming Saturday-Wednesday and hoping to find a group ride over some nice roads. Saw your Sunday morning espresso ride which looked like a good fit but was hoping to confirm with you that the ride is still on, pace (?), meet spot (Dean & Deluca/M St.) and distance (45m). I'm a cat 3 team (545 Velo) rider from New England, comfortable in group/paceline, good for a few hours at 20+ mph. Fine with off-season moderate pace and/or more aggressive riding ;-) Any info, relevant details or ride options you can give are much appreciated. | | My name is Ben Berry, I am a PhD student at the University of Maryland's Aerospace Engineering Department. For the last three years we have been designing, building, and flying a human-powered helicopter with goal of winning the long-standing Sikorsky Prize, in addition to setting world aviation records in human-powered flight ( http://www.agrc.umd.edu/gamera/). For success we require persons with very high power-to-weight ratios (W/kg). Up until now we have been utilizing student cyclists on campus, but we would very much like to explore the potential for higher performing persons in the area. I am emailing you because some of your members may be interested in trying out for this opportunity. We test prospective pilots on our ergometer machine at the UMD campus for 60-second short-burst power output using both arm and leg cranking. For now we are limiting the search to persons who weigh 150 lbs or less for structural concerns. If you could forward this announcement to your members or any individual you may think would be interested, I would be grateful. You can give them my email address to reply to. If you have any questions, feel free to ask. -Ben Berry | Ben Berry | ben1218@gmail.com | (1) New | 10/2/2011 2:08 PM |

| | Hi there, I was writing to ask about the skills clinic you all have over the winter. I know area rides generally are open to everyone, but is that something that is member-specific? I'd be happy to join if necessary, but I'm just starting, so I'm not sure that actually being on a team makes sense. I've ridden recreationally and for commuting for a while but never competitively. And since I'm experiencing a bit of burnout on running, getting more serious about cycling seems to fit. | | Hi there NCVC, I'm the president of DC State Fair--I thought you'd be interested in a new contest we're offering this year: Best Bicycle Accessory. It's under the Crafts category, so the accessory must be home-made--but using whatever materials the cyclist wants! It doesn't have to be something made specifically for the Fair, but it must be entered in our entry form at www.dcstatefair.org/2011contests by August 25 and brought to the Fair on Saturday, August 27, for judging by our judges' panel. I hope you, your members, and all your cycling friends enter the contests and head over to DC State Fair to catch the action next Saturday! | | Hello, Myself and a fellow cycling enthusiast are public accounts who commute daily to work and do long rides every Saturday. My friend has been particularly interested in obtaining one of the NCVC jersey's and I thought this would be a perfect wedding party gift for him as he is one of the groomsman. We have both been to several stores in the area and have not seen one of the NCVC jersey's, not that I would have had expected to see one as you probably only provide them to actual members. My question to you, would it be possible to buy one in support of the club or are the jersey's reserved exclusively for members? | | I'm not an NCVC member but am interested to join the hill rides on Mon and/or Wed evenings from the Italian Store in Arlington. The website doesn't indicate exactly what dates in April these rides begin. Do they start this week? Also, are non-members welcome to attend? Thanks. | Marc | mkoblentz@yahoo.com | (1) New | 4/11/2011 10:44 AM |
| | I'm interested in joining the club. I live in Bethesda, previously raced with Team BBC a number of years ago. I'd like to find some guys to ride and train with as I get back into racing. Who is the best person to speak with regarding joining the club? | Adam Schayowitz | aschayowitz@gmail.com | (1) New | 4/10/2011 12:47 PM |
