I'm a cat 3 team (545 Velo) rider from New England, comfortable in group/paceline, good for a few hours at 20+ mph. Fine with off-season moderate pace and/or more aggressive riding ;-)

My name is Ben Berry, I am a PhD student at the University of Maryland's Aerospace Engineering Department.  For the last three years we have been designing, building, and flying a human-powered helicopter with goal of winning the long-standing Sikorsky Prize, in addition to setting world aviation records in human-powered flight (http://www.agrc.umd.edu/gamera/).  For success we require persons with very high power-to-weight ratios (W/kg).  Up until now we have been utilizing student cyclists on campus, but we would very much like to explore the potential for higher performing persons in the area.

I am emailing you because some of your members may be interested in trying out for this opportunity.  We test prospective pilots on our ergometer machine at the UMD campus for 60-second short-burst power output using both arm and leg cranking.  For now we are limiting the search to persons who weigh 150 lbs or less for structural concerns.  If you could forward this announcement to your members or any individual you may think would be interested, I would be grateful.  You can give them my email address to reply to.  If you have any questions, feel free to ask.

I was writing to ask about the skills clinic you all have over the winter.  I know area rides generally are open to everyone, but is that something that is member-specific?  I'd be happy to join if necessary, but I'm just starting, so I'm not sure that actually being on a team makes sense.  I've ridden recreationally and for commuting for a while but never competitively.  And since I'm experiencing a bit of burnout on running, getting more serious about cycling seems to fit.

Hi there--I was on the the Saturday "no name" ride (overslept for the 7am) and met up with one of your riders, Chris, who I know from riding but don't have any contact information. You may or may not be aware that he crashed hard on River Road, hitting a patch of oil in a turn. He was taken away to Suburban with intense pain in his right hop and femur. So I'm trying to get a status and figure out how to contact him. Can you help?

I am interested in joining the club as I am planning to do some racing this season. My name is Amir Pozderac, am 27 and I have been in cycling for good 10 years.
 
Used to be a PRO Triathlete in Olympic distance - retired from pro racing in 2007. Riding a lot but did no races ever since. Now I would like to try road racing, and that would be a first.
 
My friend Chris Baker who is a NCVC member talked me into racing the following Sunday - 20 miler MTB race at  Michaux in PA.

He also suggested that I join NCVC so please let me know how the process would go.
